Livescribe - please let this work!

There is a bit of a buzz around about Livescribe which provided details of their product last week.

Head over to the website to have a look: Livescribe :: Turn Your Paper On.

I really like the idea (although not entirely new) - the biggest benefit for me would be that the tablet PC has now worked as well asĀ  would have liked it to, and I tend to find that I am back using pad of paper and loosing notes again. This would be a much better solution to take to a meeting - the only problem is the need for special paper. However at least they are not trying to make money out of the paper - you can buy pads from them or print them out yourself.

The different pads types are great and I hope that there will be the possibility for third parties to develop pad and paper layouts - I’d love to see something like David Seah’s Printable CEO offered with an application behind the scenes to track the data.

I wonder how things will work when you switch contexts from one pad to another - will you have to click on a each piece of paper to activate it - this will be a pain as I can see notes coming up on the wrong pages because you forgot to click in the right place - will it at least warn you?

The pad that allows you to translate is very cool - the pad that allows you to blog even cooler - but not sure how easy it will be to get the pen talking to your phone (I think Nokia already have a product in this area?).

I am highly sceptical about the example on the site of the lecture notes and the audio - I’d love a resource like this that allows a meeting to be recorded and this could be circulated with notes afterwards - no more complaining about minute taking with this method!

Would be great too if this integrated with One Note - please I hope they don’t go a and write a new piece of software as One Note is well developed now - they should only create something new if they are going to do something new - the demo looks like the software could be browser based which for me is justification to ditch One Note!

I’ve registered for more details though - and I hope it all works out.
